Aaron Rodgers bonds with Steelers teammates on 'last rodeo' out West

Some might call this Aaron Rodgers’ last dance.

“Last rodeo” is fitting as well. And that’s what the quarterback appears to prefer these days, writing on Instagram following a team bonding week out West: “Last rodeo.”

The Pittsburgh Steelers quarterback and some of his offensive teammates got out of the city just over two weeks before reporting for what’s expected to be his final training camp.

And Rodgers and his boys all looked ready for a rodeo.

In a remote setting with nothing but open land and mountains serving as the backdrop, the crew road horses, wore their best flannel and cowboy hats, went on paddleboards, road dirt bikes, chatted over an open fire pit and took in nature before the grueling NFL season gets underway.

It will be Rodgers’ last NFL season in his Hall of Fame career.

Quarterback Mason Rudolph, wide receivers DK Metcalf, Michael Pittman Jr., Roman Wilson, Ben Skowronek and tight end Pat Freiermuth joined Rodgers on the trip.

“#bondingweek” Rodgers used as a hashtag on his Instagram post.

Rodgers skipped playing in the American Century Insurance Championship at Edgewood Tahoe Golf Course in Stateline, Nevada, in favor of the getaway. Rodgers is typically a regular at the tournament, taking 15th place in each of the previous two years.

Rodgers posted a series of photos from the trip on his Instagram account with George Strait’s “Troubadour” playing over it. The song starts out with the lyrics: “I feel 25 most of the time. I still raise a little Cain with the boys.”

The Steelers also shared some of the photos on their official Instagram account with the caption: “The Boys” and a cowboy emoji.

The 42-year-old Rodgers is entering his 22nd, and what he says, is his final NFL season. It’s his second year with the Steelers.

“This is it,” Rodgers said during a news conference May 20 at the start of organized team activities after returning to the team following months of speculation on his future.

Rodgers played for 18 years with the Green Bay Packers, winning four NFL MVPs and a Super Bowl championship in 2010.

And for his final NFL season, he’s back with the coach from that Super Bowl title team. Rodgers and Mike McCarthy are together one last time. McCarthy was hired by the Steelers in January to replace Mike Tomlin, who resigned after Pittsburgh’s wild-card playoff loss.

Rodgers and his teammates report for training camp July 28 at Saint Vincent College in Latrobe, Pennsylvania.
