9-year-old victim of July 2 shooting dies days later

A 9-year-old who was in critical condition after a July 2 shooting died of the injuries July 7, according to Milwaukee police.

Police say the shooting occurred around 11:19 p.m. July 2 in the 300 block of East Burleigh Street. The 9-year-old was inside a residence when gunfire came in from outside, according to police. The child was transported to a local hospital and died five days later.

Police are seeking an unknown suspect or suspects in connection with the shooting, and ask anyone with information to contact the Milwaukee Police Department at 414-935-7360. Anyone who wishes to remain anonymous can contact Crime Stoppers at 414-224-TIPS or through the P3 Tips app.

Milwaukee police and the Milwaukee County Medical Examiner’s Office have not yet released the child’s name.
