The Primm family partnered with Terrible’s full-service gas station and convenience destination to save more than 300 jobs at the Primm Stateline casinos.
The previous operator of those establishments, Affinity Gaming, which was leasing and operating the Stateline properties from the Primm family for nearly 15 years, sent a termination letter to employees on Tuesday, May 5.
According to a press release, Affinity Gaming estimated losing between $10 million and $15 million annually, and stated that leasing the Stateline properties was no longer viable.
Terrible’s, which is owned by the Herbst family, assumed management of the Primm Center, Chevron gas station, Flying J, Whiskey Pete’s Travel Store, Lotto Store and Starbucks on July 1 and reopened them by July 2.
They took ownership of the Primm Valley Resort, Buffalo Bill’s Resort & Casino and Whiskey Pete’s Hotel & Casino on Sunday, July 5, and are expecting to reopen the properties in the coming weeks, reinstating hundreds of jobs.
Both Buffalo Bills and Whiskey Pete’s were closed at the time of the transition.
According to KLAS, Terrible’s offered every Primm employee their job back, and approximately 300 employees accepted. Terrible’s also said on-site employee housing remains open, allowing workers and their families to remain in their homes during the transition.
The news came as a shock to the Primm family, who built the casinos in the 1970s. When the termination letters were leaked in May, the grandson of the Primm casino founders, Cory Clemetson, stated that his family was disappointed they weren’t given notice before the announcement, and that they are “exploring all options to assist the employees and their families in this difficult time.”
