The San Francisco 49ers still need edge rushing support, and one young fan knows exactly who they should bring in: Las Vegas Raiders star Maxx Crosby.
In a now-viral video clip, a young fan approaches Crosby for a photo before asking him to join the 49ers.
Crosby, ever the good sport, didn’t dismiss it outright. “I can’t,” he told the kid. “But I still appreciate you doing your homework. But you never know.”
That last line — “you never know” — has only added fuel to a trade saga that’s been simmering in the background of San Francisco’s offseason for months.
The Crosby trade chatter dates back to the spring, when Las Vegas initially agreed to send the star pass rusher to the Baltimore Ravens for two first-round picks. That deal collapsed after Crosby failed his physical, and he returned to the Raiders with his trade value temporarily dinged and his future once again uncertain.
While it’s unclear if San Francisco is even in the mix for him, Bleacher Report’s Alex Kay floated a hypothetical trade sending a 2027 first-round pick and additional Day 2 compensation to Las Vegas for Crosby, similar to what the Los Angeles Rams did when the the NFC West rivals landed Myles Garrett this offseason.
But not everyone thinks San Francisco should rush into a big trade. NFL insider Albert Breer recently suggested the 49ers hold off and let the season play out before parting with significant draft capital. He advised the 49ers to wait and see how the roster looks a month or two into the season and revisit the idea if the Raiders fade while Crosby proves he’s healthy.
Crosby’s numbers explain the appeal regardless of timing. In 110 career games, the soon-to-be 29-year-old has racked up 439 tackles, 133 tackles for loss, 164 quarterback hits and 69.5 sacks, earning five straight Pro Bowl selections.
For now, the kid in the video will have to settle for Crosby’s parting words. You never know, indeed.
