A name that Michigan football was once trending for who didn’t end up choosing the Wolverines was 2025 San Juan Capistrano (Calif.) Hills three-star linebacker Weston Port. Port ended up choosing UCLA over the maize and blue, but there was a time when the one-time four-star (back in 2023) was predicted by the On3 Recruiting Prediction Machine to end up wearing a winged helmet.
Port went on a two-year mission, and with the changes with the Bruins, looks to be potentially seeking a new home. And, it appears as if Ann Arbor is where he may end up after all.
In recent days, Port has received predictions from The Michigan Insider’s Brice Marich and The Wolverine’s Ethan McDowell, both indicating that he will indeed flip to Michigan football.
The 6-foot-2, 225-pound linebacker, of course, has been away from the game for a minute, but would bolster a room that has been depleted over the years by transfers and recruits flipping.
Here is the scouting report from 247Sports’ Greg Biggins from February 2024:
Port is a versatile linebacker who probably projects best as an inside guy at the next level and that’s where he played his junior year. His first two years of HS ball, he played more as an edge rusher and showed tremendous natural pass rush ability. He has a crazy motor and you love the relentless style he plays with. He’s a tough, physical kid who’s also strong against the run and is a very instinctive player. Frame wise, he’s similar to recent UCLA ‘backer Darius Muasau and that’s why we think he’ll end up as more of a traditional inside ‘backer in college. Port has worked hard on his athleticism and looked noticeably quicker as a junior shooting gaps or running down plays from behind. He’s a big hitter who has a nice edge in his game but also looked comfortable dropping in coverage and playing in space. You love the off the field work ethic and character as well and he’s a player we could see as a future captain down the road.
Despite being No. 98 overall according to 247Sports in March 2023, Port was reranked in the 2025 recruiting cycle to No. 684 per the 247Sports Composite.
