Michigan State Police say they are investigating an incident at Electric Forest after a body of a newborn baby was found in a portable restroom on Sunday, June 28.
According to a news release, “the body of a neonate” was discovered by an employee of the restroom vending company during routine maintenance in the festival’s camping area.
As of 7:30 a.m. Monday, the incident is still under an ongoing investigation.
Police are asking festivalgoers who observed anything unusual to contact Michigan State Police at michigan.gov/michtip.
“We appreciate the public’s cooperation and ask that people avoid speculation on social media out of respect for the investigation and those affected,” MSP said in a post on X.
Electric Forest, Michigan’s largest music festival attracts tens of thousands every year.
The festival takes place in Rothbury, in west Michigan annually.
Rothbury is about 22 miles north of Muskegon off U.S. 31, between Whitehall and New Era.
