John Harbaugh brings a championship pedigree to the New York Giants, and his successful formula with the Baltimore Ravens offers a clear roadmap for Big Blue’s 2026 resurgence. After years of transition, the Giants are showing signs of adopting that proven approach as they prepare for training camp.
Harbaugh built the Ravens into perennial contenders through a physical, run-heavy offense, elite defense, and elite special teams play. The Giants are mirroring those priorities.
The addition of fullback Patrick Ricard and emphasis on a power running game with Tyrone Tracy Jr. and Cam Skattebo reflect Baltimore’s commitment to controlling the trenches and wearing down defenses. This setup should create breathing room for quarterback Jaxson Dart as he continues developing in the new offensive scheme.
On defense, Harbaugh’s Ravens consistently fielded athletic, versatile units. The Giants’ linebacker tandem of Tremaine Edmunds and first-round pick Arvell Reese forms a scary duo for opposing quarterbacks, complementing pass rushers Brian Burns, Kayvon Thibodeaux, and Abdul Carter. That length and speed up front could generate the turnover differential and negative plays that fueled the Ravens’ success for years.
Special teams, another Ravens strength under Harbaugh, has received renewed attention in East Rutherford. With veteran additions and focused coaching, the Giants aim to win the hidden yards that often decide close games in the NFC East.
Culture and veteran leadership round out the blueprint. Moves like bringing in Odell Beckham Jr., JuJu Smith-Schuster, and Braxton Berrios — not all of whom will make the initial roster — provide experienced voices to guide a talented but young group, including Malik Nabers. Harbaugh has stressed a no-shortcuts mentality, fostering the accountability that defined his Baltimore teams.
Of course, challenges remain. Integrating the offense around a young quarterback and navigating a tough schedule will test the roster’s depth. Still, the early indicators from minicamp are encouraging.
If the Giants faithfully execute Harbaugh’s blueprint, 2026 has the potential to be a breakthrough year in East Rutherford, with improved wins and a genuine shot at playoff contention. The foundation is there. Now it is time to build.
