SPRINGFIELD, IL — Sangamon County and all of central Illinois is under a heat advisory from late morning June 29 through midnight July 3.
The National Weather Service in Lincoln cautioned that heat index values were expected to rise near 105.
Heat index, or apparent temperature, represents how hot it feels to the human body when air temperature and relative humidity are combined, according to NWS.
Schuyler, Logan, Cass, Menard, Scott, Morgan and Christian counties were all included in the advisory.
NWS said hot temperatures and high humidity may cause heat-related illnesses.
Several flood warnings were issued by the NWS for communities on the Illinois River.
Due to high temperatures, Republic Services, Lake Area Disposal and Waste Management are beginning daily waste collection at 5 a.m. starting the week of June 29.
