The San Francisco 49ers lost Jauan Jennings this offseason, and with their wide receiver room already struggling a bit at points throughout their 2025 campaign, they decided to add a pair of veterans and a rookie on Day 2 of the 2026 NFL draft to help fix the problem.
With the additions, 49ers All-Pro fullback Kyle Juszczyk has been impressed with the wide receiver room through organized team activities.
“I’ve seen such a shift,” Juszczyk told NBC Sports’ Jennifer Lee Chan while at TE University this week. “It’s been so awesome to see Mike Evans in person and be in a Niners jersey. He’s been so dominant and something I don’t think we’ve had in maybe ever or not in a long time. His ability to be a true X-receiver, running individual routes by himself and win against man-to-man coverage, I think is going to open up so much for this offense. An offense that’s already had a lot of success without it. With the additions of Mike, De’Zhaun Stribling and Christian Kirk, I think a lot of explosive and reliable players are going to take this offense to another level.”
Evans will likely be the team’s top wideout in 2026, but the other spots on the depth chart behind him are wide open for competition. Kirk and Stribling will battle former first-round pick Ricky Pearsall in training camp for opportunities, while others like Demarcus Robinson, Jacob Cowing and Jordan Watkins will be fighting for a job.
Competition is a great thing for a team looking to get over the hump, and San Francisco absolutely has that at wide receiver.
