Several High Desert residents are on a quest to obtain an America 250th quarter, released by the United States Mint in honor of the country’s milestone anniversary.
The mint will release a mountain of Semiquincentennial 2026 Declaration of Independence Quarters in honor of America’s 250th birthday, the agency stated.
“I’m looking for a few of the newly minted 2026 quarters,” Victorville resident Julie Martin told the Daily Press. “My dad gave me a few bicentennial quarters when I was little and I want to add the new coins to my collection.”
Self-dubbed “American patriot” Stephen Wilson of Hesperia said he’d also like to obtain a few of the Semiquincentennial quarters.
Semiquincentennial coins
The mint will produce 250,000 Semiquincentennial 2026 Declaration of Independence Quarters featuring a special July 4th privy mark in celebration of America’s 250th anniversary.
Bearing no mint mark, these unique quarters will be placed randomly into circulation, offering Americans a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to discover a piece of history in everyday transactions, the mint stated.
“This is more than a coin; it’s a defining moment in our nation’s story,” Mint Director Paul Hollis said. “We hope Americans enjoy the search for these iconic quarters as they’re meant to be shared, saved, and remembered as part of this historic anniversary.”
Randomly mixed in with other 2026 Declaration of Independence Quarters, these 250,000 special quarters will be made available to banks and financial institutions nationwide in time for the Fourth of July.
For the Semiquincentennial, the Mint will also be updating the circulating nickels, dimes, quarters, and half dollars. These coins, as well as collectible pennies, can be purchased from the United States Mint in annual sets or select bags and rolls in 2026.
“The designs on these historic coins depict the story of America’s journey toward a ‘more perfect union,’ and celebrate America’s defining ideals of liberty. We hope to offer each American the opportunity to hold our nation’s storied 250 years of history in the palms of their hands as we Connect America through Coins.”
Bicentennial quarters
In 1976, Bicentennial quarters, half dollars, and dollars were minted for America’s 200th birthday in 1976.
Over 1.6 billion Bicentennial quarters were produced between 1975 and 1976, making them one of the most widely minted commemorative coins in U.S. history, according to California Gold and Silver Exchange.
