New York Giants' Patrick Ricard explains his selfless play style

The New York Giants signed veteran fullback Patrick Ricard to a two-year contract during the offseason.

Ricard will enter his first season in New York as one of the top fullbacks in the NFL. The talented veteran will play an essential role on the Giants’ offense in a variety of ways this upcoming season, and his level of play will have a direct impact on New York’s offensive success as a whole.

Ricard is credited with just 323 yards and seven touchdowns across the first nine years of his NFL career. The big man was recently asked about his selfless playing style, and he explained his mindset behind his role on the Giants’ offense.

“I mean, that doesn’t bother me at all,” Ricard said, via the New York Post. “I’ve been fortunate enough to play with so many great backs and so many great quarterbacks who can run the ball to where as long as I am blocking and we are getting yards and we’re getting touchdowns, that’s all I care about. That’s all that matters.

“It does not bother me if I don’t get the ball at all. Sometimes I’d rather have these other guys get the balls because they’re just, to be honest, they’re better. They’re more explosive. They can run a lot faster than me, you know, I’m 300 pounds. So, I’d rather have the ball in their hands and me blocking for them.”

Ricard could quickly elevate New York’s run game to an extremely high level this season. The massive fullback possesses elite athleticism and strength for his size, and he has proven on countless occasions his ability to create space and opportunities on the ground during his time in Baltimore.

The veteran undoubtedly understands his role on the Giants’ offense entering 2026, and he may very well emerge as a difference-maker as soon as Week 1.
