Warrants for Eminem's ex-wife after she skips drunken driving cases

A Macomb County district court judge issued bench warrants for Eminem’s ex-wife after she failed to appear in court for a hearing and a sentencing in separate drunken driving cases.

Kimberley Anne Mathers, 51, of Chesterfield Township, failed to appear for a sentencing and a bond modification hearing in one case and a probable cause conference in another case in 42-2 District Court in New Baltimore on Wednesday, June 24. Both of the cases were filed this year.

The bond modification hearing and sentencing came from her May 11 no contest plea to operating while intoxicated, according to a release from the Macomb County Prosecutor’s Office. Online district court records list the charge as operating-impaired, a misdemeanor.

The release said she violated the court’s bond conditions by being arrested for another operating while impaired offense two days after entering her plea.

The prosecutor’s office said the probable cause conference was set in connection with a third offense operating while intoxicated charge on which Mathers was arraigned on May 28. Online court records list the charge as a felony.

The prosecutor’s office also said she allegedly violated her alcohol monitoring device four times since May 28.

Online court records list a bench warrant and a $10,000 cash surety bond set in each case. Both cases indicate “defendant notified of upcoming action – text message” and confirmed delivery on June 19 and June 23, according to online court records.

Messages were left for Mathers’ attorney, Camilla Barkovic, on Thursday, June 25.

Prosecutor Peter Lucido said in his office’s release: “We really need to think about public safety. When an individual repeatedly drives while intoxicated and then fails to appear for critical court proceedings, it calls into question whether existing measures are sufficient to protect the public and ensure compliance with the judicial process.”
