A local furniture store that’s been in the community for more than 20 years is closing.
ROC City Furniture at 171 Clay Road, Henrietta, is holding a going-out-of-business sale with discounts of 40% to 80%, owner and founder Dan Stewart said.
He expects it will take a couple of weeks for inventory to be depleted.
The decision to close was made because of economic conditions, he said. “No one has any money. It’s been rough.”
In addition, chain furniture stores with more prominent addresses have opened nearby.
At one time, ROC City Furniture also had locations in Greece and Irondequoit, but both closed.
Store hours for the liquidation sale are 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. daily, although the store will close early on June 26, Stewart, a Brighton resident, said.
A Facebook post announcing the closure gave thanks for “every customer, family, and home we’ve had the privilege to be part of over the years,” noting the sale includes furniture, mattresses, sectionals and dining room and bedroom sets.
Stewart said after the store shuts down, he’ll be looking for work.
Previously, he had eight employees. For the closing period, he’s down to two.
His business also sponsored youth sports teams.
“We were very active in the community,” he said.
