PALM BEACH GARDENS — Jupiter Medical Center broke ground on what will become its second hospital, marking its expansion into western Palm Beach County amid a push to expand medical services into the region.
Hospital officials and Palm Beach Gardens city leaders gathered the morning of June 24 for a ceremony to mark the groundbreaking for the Jupiter Medical Center Neighborhood Hospital at the Health Park at Avenir.
Jupiter Medical will build a two-story, 53,000-square foot hospital, off Northlake Boulevard near Avenir’s Town Center.
The hospital will feature 29 inpatient beds, four operating rooms, 24-hour emergency services and diagnostic laboratory and imaging services. It will stand next to a three-story, 47,000-square-foot medical office building that will be affiliated with Jupiter Medical Center, Palm Beach County’s only not-for-profit hospital.
Both facilities are expected to open in early 2028.
Western suburbs growing fast, need medical care, hospital CEO says
Dr. Amit Rastogi, the president and CEO of Jupiter Medical, said the hospital is building the complex to fill the needs of a growing segment of the county that he said has been underserved by medical care.
“When you think about one of the fastest growing areas of Palm Beach County, the western end for sure is,” he said.
“There’s about 40,000 people who live here to today that don’t really have access to medical care for about 10 to 15 miles. We knew that we needed to be able to provide both the emergency services, but also diagnostic and consultative services.”
Avenir is a mixed-use development covering more than 4,700 acres west of Florida’s Turnpike. It includes businesses, schools, parks and nature preserve areas as well as residences. The community will have more than 4,000 single-family residences and townhomes when it is built out.
The Jupiter Medical groundbreaking marks the latest effort in a push to expand medical services in northern Palm Beach County.
In January, Palm Beach Gardens approved a stand-alone emergency room near Avenir that Palm Beach Gardens Medical Center will run. In May, the city saw the opening of the new Alan B. Miller Medical Center, a seven-story hospital that sits along Interstate 95 near Donald Ross Road.
“It’s important to have health care services close to the residents, to keep people within the community,” Palm Beach Gardens Mayor Dana Middleton said after the groundbreaking ceremony. “And it’s all part of the Palm Beach Gardens plan within Avenir to have retail, health care services so that people don’t have to travel on the roads and go on Northlake and have to travel so far for services.”
The Health Park at Avenir also will feature two separate two-story, 25,000-square-foot medical office buildings available for lease. Those buildings will break ground at a later date, a hospital spokesperson said.
The medical campus is being developed by Palm Beach Gardens-based Sina Cos., with Black Diamond Construction acting as the general contractor.
“For us to be able to have our home office here and to be able to be involved in a project like this, 20 minutes away from our office, is truly exciting,” said Malcolm Sina, the developer’s executive chairman. “And to pick JMC as our partner, tremendous. I think they’ve got the best group of physicians. They made a big commitment out here. … We’re super excited for a lot of reasons. “
