The Detroit Red Wings have several picks in the upcoming draft, but unless something changes very soon, they won’t be picking on Day 1.
Day 1 of the 2026 NHL Draft takes place on Friday, June 26, in Buffalo, New York. The night will feature the first round of the draft beginning at 7 p.m. ET, and will be televised on ESPN (with streaming available on Fubo and ESPN+).
The Red Wings own six picks in the seven-round draft, but all of them are currently slotted in rounds 2-7, happening on Day 2 of the draft on Saturday, June 27. The Red Wings traded their first-round pick to the St. Louis Blues on March 6 as part of the Justin Faulk trade.

One way the Wings could move into the first round is by moving disgruntled star Dylan Larkin, who requested a trade after 11 years in Detroit. And though Red Wings general manager Steve Yzerman has not commented publicly on Larkin’s wishes, it wouldn’t be surprising if the team captain was offered up for a package that included picks in this year’s draft.
Here’s what you need to know about Detroit’s draft pick situation.
