Trump’s corruption in plain sight

Re “Microlooting, Medicaid fraud and shrugs at assassin. We’re in trouble,” June 21: Lawlessness and corruption are endemic to Somalia, and immigrants from there have thus fueled the Medicaid crisis in the U.S., according to Dispatch contributing columnist Philip Derrow.

It’s just in their nature, or so he would have us believe. He ties in crime that apparently didn’t exist in his youth, and pretty soon he sees the connection to immigrants being the reason he can’t leave his house unlocked now.

And, “It’s even worse when those in power and influence make excuses for lawlessness since such vice varnishing just encourages more of it.”

How about Jan. 6? And the president overturning the legal rulings against the participants? And then trying to set up a $1.776 billion fund to thank them for their service… to him? And his family’s profiteering on his position? What is his responsibility as a “shining beacon on the hill” for new immigrants to model?

Immoral, illegal behavior and corruption come in all colors and hues: white, brown and orange. And should be punished and noted equally.

Give a hand up, not a handout

I just finished reading the article saying that millions fewer Americans are claiming SNAP food benefits. The story recounts that many cases of fraud have been exposed.

My thoughts on such benefits are pretty simple: If you are mentally and physically able to work, get a job. As a taxpayer, I am not going to feed you.

My father told me it is much better to give a hand up rather than a handout. Educational and employment opportunities are readily available and accessible to those with the desire to be self-sustaining. The world doesn’t owe anyone a living.

Send ‘Dr. Hegseth’ packing

A significant flu outbreak has resulted in the hospitalization of nearly 160 troops at Lackland Air Force Base in Texas within two months of Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth’s announcement that U.S. troops would no longer be mandated to receive flu vaccinations. “Dr.” Hegseth characterized the vaccine requirement, which he rescinded in April, as an “absurd, overreaching” mandate.

In response to the outbreak, the optional flu vaccine was made mandatory. Tragically, a trainee in his sixth week of basic training succumbed to flu-related complications.

The Iran war’s debacle can be attributed to Hegseth’s directives.

Conversely, Hegseth’s failure to implement the tried and true universal vaccine policy of the armed forces has resulted in a flu outbreak. Universal vaccination has safeguarded our troops since Washington immunized his troops against smallpox.

It appears that Hegseth has lost the confidence of his superiors as an effective leader. It is imperative that President Donald Trump dismiss Hegseth before we face another military setback.

The man in the mirror

Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth’s war on diversity results from his belief that diversity has elevated women and minorities to jobs they have not earned.

Has this sycophant looked in the mirror? Only because of his butt-kissing and total allegiance to a con man has this unqualified human being earned the position he is in.
