An annual Michigan State basketball summer tradition started on Tuesday — Moneyball Pro-Am. And there were some takes and insights on the Spartans participating in the event out of the first night of hoops.
For those not in the know, the Moneyball Pro-Am is an annual event during the summer that brings local high-level basketball players together. Typically, a majority of the Spartans play in the games, with this year being no different. The only notable player that sees regular playing time that isn’t participating this year is guard Kur Teng.
So with nearly the whole Spartans’ roster participating, there were obviously some takeaways from the opening night of action. Jacob Cotsonika of SI posted his observations from the opening night, stating Fears looked “more explosive” and new freshman guard Carlos Medlock Jr. will “probably be more than a backup point guard” this season. He also had some positive things to say about Julius Avent, Anton Bonke and Jordan Scott.
Included below is the full embedded social media post from Cotsonika from Tuesday night:
These are all some positive remarks on the Spartans and should get fans even more excited for the upcoming season. But let’s also remember that the Moneyball Pro-Am has resulted in false hope in the past so we need to be sure to take everything seen with a grain of salt.
Moneyball Pro-Am will continue through July with games being played at Holt High School on Tuesdays and Thursdays. If you’re in the area, I recommend attending one of the nights to see some high level hoops during a summer period that is otherwise lacking Michigan State action.
