An 87-year-old Oregon man died on Monday after being pulled from the water at Lake Shasta.
Deputies with the Shasta County Sheriff’s Office boating safety unit got a medical call about a man who’d been swimming near a houseboat becoming unresponsive and going underwater at 4:23 p.m. on June 22 at Shoemaker Creek in the Big Backbone Inlet at the lake.
Bystanders pulled him from the water.
Deputies arriving on the scene gave medical aid until first responders arrived. The patient was taken to a local hospital where he died.
The man was identified as 87-year-old Alvin Eatinger of Ashland, Oregon. The Shasta County Coroner’s Office notified his next-of-kin and scheduled an autopsy.
