The man convicted of strangling women on Long Island has been transferred to a prison in Dutchess County.
According to the New York State Department of Corrections and Community Supervision, convicted serial killer Rex Heuermann was moved to Green Haven Correctional Facility in Beekman.
Heuermann was previously held at the Suffolk County Correctional Facility in Riverhead from his arrest in July 2023 until his sentencing on June 10.
Convictions tied to Gilgo Beach killings
Heuermann lived in Massapequa during the period in which prosecutors said he killed several women between 1993 and 2010. The victims’ remains were later discovered in multiple locations across Long Island, including near Gilgo Beach in Babylon.
In April, Heuermann admitted to the killings and was sentenced on June 17 to three consecutive life sentences without the possibility of parole.
Possible future transfer under review
Officials said Heuermann’s placement at Green Haven is temporary.
He is expected to be evaluated for security classification, medical needs and mental health considerations before being assigned to a long-term facility.
