Pontillo’s in Canandaigua is closing after nearly 50 years in operation, according to the pizza eatery’s Facebook page June 22.
No closing date was announced in the post signed by the “Pontillo’s Family,” although the owners said “this incredibly difficult choice” was made with heavy hearts and involved circumstances beyond their control.
The post mentions how customers have become like family over the years, and they were thanked for loyalty, kindness and support.
“The memories, conversations, and friendships formed within these walls are something we will cherish for the rest of our lives,” the post goes on to say. “We have been honored to share birthdays, Friday night dinners, championship celebrations, and countless ordinary evenings that became special simply because they were spent together.”
The Canandaigua restaurant is in the Parkway Plaza by the lake.
This is the second location to close in Ontario County in the last few years. Caraglio’s pizza opened a location in Victor in 2025 after Pontillo’s restaurant in the village closed.
