A dog comforted cat after they were abandoned at Indiana shelter. Where are they now?

A dog and a cat won over the hearts of users on social media earlier this month for their companionship when they were abandoned together at the Humane Society of Hamilton County on a hot day.

“Abandoned together at our front door as temperatures are on the rise– Jenkins and Boris are two of many pets who will face a dangerous situation as the summer heat sets in,” the Hamilton County Humane Society wrote on Instagram June 3.

Boris, a 6-month-old puppy, and Jenkins, a 2-year-old cat, were abandoned at the Humane Society in Fishers. The puppy had his paw resting on the cat, seemingly to provide comfort.

“…we were moved to see how bravely Boris watched over his little friend. Covering Jenkins with his paw for protection and comfort, it almost seemed like the little pup understood the reality of the dangerous situation they were abandoned in,” the shelter wrote on Instagram.

The Humane Society of Hamilton County took the opportunity to remind Hoosiers about heat safety when it comes to leaving animals outside in the summer heat.

“It is critical for our community to understand that abandoning animals in our parking lot can be a death sentence,” the shelter wrote. “We are so grateful to have found Jenkins and Boris in time to help them, but as we enter the summer season, abandoning a pet in our parking lot will only become more dangerous for the animal’s health and safety.”

The post sharing Boris and Jenkins’ story garnered more than 2,000 likes on both Instagram and Facebook.

Since then, both Boris and Jenkins have found their forever homes, according to the Humane Society for Hamilton County’s Instagram.
