In going public with their relationship at the Masters, Wyndham Clark called new girlfriend Emily Tanner his “good-luck charm.”
Well, Clark’s good-luck charm happens to be a Michigan native and Michigan State alum, and she appears to have brought the pro golfer some big-time good luck. He won the Byron Nelson PGA Tour tournament last month to stop a winless drought of more than two years. And now, he’s running away with the U.S. Open.
Clark was at 7 under through three rounds of the U.S. Open at Shinnecock Hills Golf Club in New York and will take a six-stroke lead into Sunday’s final round as he looks for his second U.S. Open title. He also won in 2023.
Tanner has been cheering on her beau all week long in the galleries on Long Island.
Who is Emily Tanner?
Tanner, 31, is a Metro Detroit native who attended Michigan State from 2013-17, graduating with a bachelor’s degree in public health, according to her LinkedIn profile. While at Michigan State, she also was a nursing assistant and patient care assistant at Warren Health Academy in Waterford, and she spent a semester as a student volunteer at Sparrow Health System in Lansing.
During college, according to a 2018 profile by WDIV Channel 4, Tanner was approached by a photographer who said “you have a good look,” and she posed for a photo shoot. That led to her current career as a model/social media influencer, as she’s amassed more than 730,000 followers on Instagram.
Tanner co-founded Over Social Agency, an influencer and marketing company based in California, where she now resides, that specializes, according to Tanner’s Instagram bio, in “Beauty, Fashion, Health & Wellness.” Among her clients: the Big Ten Conference. Tanner co-founded the company with fellow Michigan native Nancy Nguyen.
When did Emily Tanner and Wyndham Clark start dating?
It’s not clear when Tanner and Clark first got together, but she posted pictures from The Players Championship in Florida in March, and the two officially went public with their relationship the week of the Masters, the season’s first major championship, back in April in Augusta, Georgia. Tanner caddied for Clark in the pre-tournament Par 3 contest, and the two were photographed holding hands walking down the fairways.
It’s also not clear how or when or where the couple met.
Clark is not the first athlete Tanner has dated. Several years ago, Tanner dated pro football wide receiver Danny Amendola when he was playing for the Lions (he played for Detroit from 2019-20) and she still was living in Michigan. Clark previously dated Alicia Bogdanski, a former Arizona State cheerleader.
Will Wyndham Clark and Emily Tanner be at the Rocket Classic?
Clark will be there. Stay tuned on Tanner, though quite possibly if it fits into her schedule. She still has immediate family in Metro Detroit.
Clark began the week of the U.S. Open on Monday by officially committing to playing in the Rocket Classic, set for July 30-Aug. 2 at Detroit Golf Club. Clark, 32, will play in the Rocket Classic for the fourth time (he withdrew in 2020, the COVID year, before teeing it up). His best showing in Detroit was a tie for eighth in 2022.
(The updated list of Rocket Classic commitments can be found HERE.)
Clark is the No. 34-ranked player in the world (for now, though that’s likely to improve greatly by Sunday night). He’s won four times on the PGA Tour, including the U.S. Open in 2023 at Los Angeles Country Club.
