The owners of this Madison landmark restaurant are retiring

The owners of Mickies Dairy Bar in Madison are retiring after 35 years and will pass the well-known diner near the University of Wisconsin-Madison campus to new ownership starting July 20, Mickies announced in a June 18 social media post.

Payow and Janet Thongnuam have owned and operated the diner since 1991. The 1950s-themed, cash-only, institution is popular among students and Badgers sports fans on game days for serving large breakfast portions, with often long lines of people waiting to get in.

The post didn’t share who the next owners would be but said Mickies will maintain its normal hours through July 20, with more information to come.

“Payow and Janet are beyond grateful for their employees, customers, and community who have made these last three decades possible,” the post said.
