Holly police say they’ve located a toddler who was captured on a resident’s Ring doorbell camera wandering by himself late Friday morning, prompting authorities to search the area multiple times.
According to the Holly Police Department, a homeowner in the 500 block of Elm Street reached out to police just before noon Friday after his Ring camera system captured images of small boy in a red shirt who appeared to be by himself.
Officers immediately responded and canvassed the area and neighboring homes with the help of community members. Officers also requested help from the Oakland County Sheriff’s Office for a K9 and drone.
Authorities said the boy, who is about 18 months old, was found at a home that police visited three times during the search.
“Each time the parents denied it was their child,” Holly police said in a Facebook post Friday evening. “When confronted with new information, they admitted they did not want to get in trouble because their child had wandered off without their knowledge, and had returned home in his own.”
Police said they plan to continue their investigation but thanked those who helped with the search.
“We thank the community and the media for sharing this story, which resulted in its closure,” said Holly police in an update on Facebook. “We also thank our law enforcement partners at the Oakland County Sheriff’s Office for the immediate response of a K9, drone and ultimately the helicopter to search ponds and wooded areas.”
