FSU projected to land edge who takes official visit this weekend

Florida State has their sites set on continuing to build their 2027 recruiting class. Three-star edge Stevan Thornton III, who took his first visit to FSU for a Junior Day event in March, has become a key target for the program.

Things picked up when Thornton attended the Seminoles’ Big Man Camp on June 10. On Wednesday, he received his offer from Florida State, and now he’s set to take an official visit.

“Blessed to be heading to my OV at Florida State University this weekend,” Thornton said on social media.

That’s not the only development as far as Thornton’s recruitment. Kolby Crawford of Noles247 has logged a crystal ball prediction for the Seminoles to land the 6-foot-5, 200-pounder. He went into further detail as to why he feels like FSU will get a pledge from Thornton.

“Thornton has not taken any other official visits throughout the process, and FSU is currently trending to land him. But the picture is not entirely settled. Baylor, Cincinnati and Virginia Tech were all attempting to get him in for official visits this same weekend, and Tulane has remained engaged as well. None of those programs got the visit. FSU did. I feel good with the Noles here,” Crawford said.

After reading that, it makes sense why there’s confidence in FSU’s chances of getting Thornton to commit. He’s coming off a very strong junior year at Cairo High School with 91 tackles, 20 tackles for loss, and eight sacks. He would be a solid addition to four-star Anthony Cavallaro and three-star Jaxon Holly at the edge spot for the Seminoles.

This will be Thornton’s second trip to Tallahassee in less than 10 days. Hopefully, with how things have progressed so quickly, Florida State can get him to commit before he leaves campus.

Thornton is the No. 883 recruit in the country and the No. 75 edge in 247Sports composite rankings. In the state of Georgia, he’s the No. 106 prospect.
