Until the future of LeBron James is decided, the Golden State Warriors are doing their due diligence in the trade market, with their No. 11 overall pick as a possible asset that could see them land another star. While Warriors general manager Mike Dunleavy Jr. believes the team will hold on to their pick, he left the door open to a possible trade.
According to Warriors insider Anthony Slater, Trey Murphy III of the New Orleans Pelicans may be ‘more attainable’ now than he was at last February’s trade deadline. Slater also indicated Golden State’s interest in Murphy III is nothing new, saying, “The Warriors’ front office has circled (Murphy III) for years as a prime wing who fits a need, the Kerr system and, at 25, accomplishes the goal of getting younger.”
NBA insider Jake Fischer and his recent report on the Pelicans may also indicate New Orleans’ willingness to move Murphy III, as Stein revealed that the Pelicans are ‘very interested’ in acquiring a lottery pick for next week’s NBA Draft.
If the Warriors were to acquire Murphy III, they’d benefit from his defense, shooting and scoring ability right away. Last season for the Pelicans, Murphy III averaged a career-high 21.5 points to go along with 5.7 rebounds, 3.8 assists and 1.5 steals while shooting 47% from the field and 37.9% from 3-point range.
