Following storms that knocked out power to thousands and flooded roadways in southeast Michigan, Thursday’s forecast calls for cool temperatures and drier conditions, officials said.
The National Weather Service said temperatures for Thursday, Friday, and the weekend are expected to be slightly below normal.
The temps
Readings across the region are expected to range between 69 and 73 degrees on Thursday. Detroit’s high is expected to reach 72, according to the agency. The city’s average monthly high temperature in June is 79.7.
NWS meteorologists also said Thursday will be a breezy day with westerly wind gusts of up to 35 mph. They also added that a few isolated showers are possible.
They credit the weather and winds to a low-pressure system leaving the region.
On Friday, the region’s high temperatures are expected to range between 74 degrees and 77 degrees. Detroit’s high temperature on Friday is expected to reach 77 degrees.
NWS officials predict temperatures in the area will drop slightly over the weekend.
The forecast calls for highs to range between 73 and 78 on Saturday and between 73 and 76 on Sunday. Detroit’s highs could reach 77 on Saturday and 76 on Sunday, according to the forecast.
Outages remain after storms
Meanwhile, overnight storms on Wednesday interrupted electrical service to an estimated 11,000 customers across Southeast Michigan.
On Thursday morning, DTE Energy reported that 5,275 of its customers were in the dark, down from about 9,000 on Wednesday night. Consumers Energy said about 4,500 of its customers were without power, up from about 2,000 the night before. Both companies said 99.7% of their customers had service.
Heavy rains also prompted state officials to close both directions of the Lodge Freeway at Wyoming Avenue in Detroit early Thursday due to flooding. The freeway’s lanes reopened at about 6:30 a.m.
