Here's what new WSRE-TV station lineup looks like without PBS

Educational programming for children, history and culture shows, and music will still be offered on WSRE-TV after the public broadcasting television station ends its PBS affiliation on June 30.

Pensacola State College has released the upcoming WSRE-TV lineup that will start July 1. The new lineup includes a slate of Fourth of July specials celebrating the nation’s 250th anniversary, along with longtime WSRE-TV favorites such as StudioAmped, Nightmare Theatre and Conversations With Jeff Weeks.

Programs have been consolidated from five channels into just Channel 23. The new programming includes content from American Public Television, Telco Productions, The Florida Channel, WSRE-TV staff and other sources.

In September, the Pensacola State College District Board of Trustees ended it affiliation with PBS after WSRE-TV lost $1.2 million in federal grants and $370,000 in state funds. PSC President Ed Meadows said at that time, the college couldn’t absorb the extra costs of operating under PBS, which had subscription rates around $800,000 a year.
