The section runs between Hudson Avenue and Kings Highway, where Carbone lived and operated his podiatry practice for many years. Signs will be installed at each of those corners.

Carbone, an Irondequoit native, served as a Monroe County legislator from 2013 to 2021 and as its president from 2018 to 2021. He died at age 68 on June 21, 2025.

Besides working in his own practice, Carbone served as chief of podiatry at Rochester Regional Health and on the boards of Golisano Children’s Hospital, Monroe Community Hospital, Monroe Community College and the Italian Heritage Foundation.

“Dr. Joe Carbone was one of a kind. Beyond being a dedicated public servant, to so many who knew him personally, he was a loyal friend and a true giant in our community,” Deputy Republican Leader Paul Dondorfer said in a news release. “Joe was outspoken, humorous, refreshingly honest, and always committed to doing what was right for the people he served.

“Dr. Joe Carbone loved Irondequoit with all his heart. Whether he was sponsoring a Little League team, supporting a community event, or fighting for the residents he represented, Dr. Carbone was always looking for ways to make our community stronger,” County Executive Adam Bello said in the news release.

Irondequoit Town Supervisor John Perticone, Carbone’s friend and former New York state Sen. Jim Alesi, elected officials, family, friends and community members participated in the ceremony. Carbone’s mother, Loretta Carbone, thanked the elected officials for the dedication, which the Monroe County Legislature approved unanimously in November.
