See how Westchester Crossing development will transform Port Chester

PORT CHESTER—Redevelopment has ramped up on the former United Hospital site, where more than 1,000 apartments, a hotel and retail space are planned.

The project, known as Westchester Crossing, calls for 1,000 residential units, 150 senior apartments, a 120-room boutique hotel, retail and green space. An amenity hub will include a gym, indoor sports courts, a movie center and lounge area.

Demolition was recently completed. Construction is expected to begin by the end of this year and proceed in phases, with the first building slated to open in 2028.

The development would transform the 15-acre property at 406 Boston Post Road, once home to United Hospital, which closed in 2005. The site has sat dormant for years.

What the developer says about Westchester Crossing project

Chris Gibaldi, developer and managing director of development at Rose Associates, said the vision is to build a mixed-use complex in a central Westchester County location, where residents can live within walking distance of train stations and have access to restaurants, cafe and stores.

“You’re coming here for a destination,” Gibaldi said. “We’re envisioning a number of different uses that really serve the residents as well as the public.”

The housing, hotel and retail space will be spread across seven buildings.

About 10% of the 1,000 apartment units are designated as affordable for residents earning up to 60% of the Area Median Income, about $71,250 for one person. Apartments will range from studios to one-and-two-bedroom units. Target residents include empty nesters and professionals.

The project also includes work to widen the Interstate 287 exit ramp, along with utility, paving and traffic improvements.

Gov. Kathy Hochul in April praised the project, which she said is supported by up to $10 million from the Mid-Hudson Momentum Fund. The overall $65 million development effort will upgrade essential utilities, improve roadway access, and ready the long-underutilized property for new residential and community development, she added in a statement.
