Could Notre Dame football break its NFL draftee record in 2027?

Notre Dame football has a very impressive track record in sending its players to the NFL, and the 2027 draft could see history being made.

The all-time record for most picks in a single draft for the Irish according to fightingirish.com is 16 set in 1946, with a big caveat of having 32 total rounds. The modern era record is 10 selections in 1994, which is the total the we should consider the record.

Matt Freeman of IrishSportsDaily shared on social media following a conversation with an NFL scout that said “he currently has 18 Notre Dame players with draftable grades and expects that number to rise.” If that is the case, not only with the Irish break the school record, they’d break the total record currently held by Georgia in 2022 with having 15 picks.

There are plenty of changes that can happen between now and when the draft is held next April, but if that scout is correct, Notre Dame could be on the verge of history when the dust settles. If it does happen, a good amount of the credit will have to go to head coach Marcus Freeman, as he’s assembled plenty of talented players that could rival some of Notre Dame’s all-time great teams.
