Newport Road closure set for DTE project

Starting late June or early July, the eastbound lane of Newport Road between US-24 and I-75 in in Berlin Township will be closed for a DTE project until September.

This is part of a larger project to expand and upgrade the Swan Creek substation, according to Nicole Bonneville with DTE corporate communications. The work includes adding capacity and modernizing equipment, and is intended to better support demand in the area over time. It also aims to improve reliability, including fewer and shorter outages, especially during storms.

The work involves underground construction along the south side of Newport road and installing one and a half miles of conduit and 13 manholes. The eastbound lane closure will be needed to create a safe work space, according to Bonneville. Closures along the road will occur in segments as work progresses, with local access being maintained and flagging crews will be on site to direct traffic.

The anticipated detour route will go through US-24, I-275 and I-75, according to the Monroe County Road Commission.
