Brockport voters keep village court, appointed trustee

Voters pushed to maintain the status quo in the Village of Brockport, with voters selecting an appointed board trustee and voting to maintain the village court in the June 16 elections.

Sandeep Singh will retain his seat on the village board, overcoming a challenge from Scott Hunsinger, 415 to 318. A position on the board remains vacant but was not included in the June elections.

In the race for village justice, Christopher R. Martin and William G. Andrews ran unopposed to retain their positions. Those positions will remain, as voters narrowly voted against the abolishment of the village court, by a count of 386 to 366.

Had the vote to abolish the court been successful, all cases handled by the village court would have been sent to Sweden Town Court or Clarkson Town Court beginning on July 1.

Despite continuing the village court, voters backed Singh, a supporter of the abolishment of the village court, over Hunsinger, who called the court efficient in a critique of the village administration.
