A major boating supply and accessory company, West Marine, has filed for bankruptcy. The store is closing nearly 60 stores nationwide, including one in Grand Haven.
There are other locations in Bay City, Muskegon, Petoskey, St. Clair Shores and Troy, according to the company’s website. The business’ location in Holland is expected to remain open.
The closures come amid the company’s bankruptcy filing, with 59 stores to close across 23 states.
“After productive discussions with key advisors, we’ve reached an agreement to pursue a strategic reorganization that will address our capital structure while maximizing value for all our stakeholders,” the company wrote on its bankruptcy restructuring website.
The company reportedly has more than 200 retail locations across 34 states and Puerto Rico.
“West Marine has been a trusted partner to the boating community for decades, and we remain deeply committed to that mission,” CEO Paulee Day wrote in a press release. “The actions we are taking today will allow us to optimize our operations and rationalize our footprint, so that we can focus on continuing to serve our customers and community well into the future.”
West Marine was founded in 1968.
