Are more tornados coming? Severe storms could hit Indiana this week

Skies are expected to be sunny June 15 but forecasters have warned severe weather is on the way, with a chance for damaging winds, large hail and the potential for tornados.

Meteorologists with the National Weather Service in Indianapolis are predicting a 60% chance of showers and thunderstorms starting Tuesday, but the real nasty stuff is expected to hit later.

An enhanced risk of severe weather is possible Wednesday, June 17, less than a week after an intense wave of storms resulted in 21 tornados touching down in Indiana. Here’s what you can expect.

Severe weather possible for central Indiana starting Tuesday, June 16

“Thunderstorms return to Indiana on Tuesday with a few severe storms possible,” an unnamed spokesperson for NWS said on social media, followed by more severe weather.

“A potential for a large scale weather event across Illinois and Indiana” is possible June 17, said NWS, but many uncertainties exist.

Andrew White, a meteorologist with NWS, said Hoosiers can expect severe weather Wednesday arriving most likely in the evening.

“The main threats Wednesday will be large hail, damaging winds, and possible tornados,” White said. “Heavy rainfall could also produce flooding in some areas.”
