Tractor Supply plans to build Victorville store after long delay

The Victorville Planning Commission has paved the way for the construction of a Tractor Supply Company retail store.

During a public hearing on Wednesday, the commission voted 4-0 to approve the environmental assessment, site plan and conditional use permit for the new Tractor Supply.

The store’s property is adjacent and east of the WinCo Foods parking lot, between Amargosa Road and Civic Drive, and Midtown Drive and Roy Rogers Drive near Raising Cane’s.

The project would include a nearly 24,000-square-foot building and a nearly 20,000-square-foot fenced outdoor display/sales area.

The project would include a permanent display area for equipment such as trailers and utility vehicles, within the 2,000 square foot parking lot.

Access to the store would be from Midtown Drive and Roy Rogers Drive.

The retailer offers sporting, fishing, camping and hunting gear, as well as truck and trailer accessories, and other items.

Tractor Supply reverses course

Tractor Supply made its introduction to the High Desert in 2013, when the company announced plans to move into the abandoned Walmart on Bear Valley Road and Balsam Avenue in Victorville.

The Walmart building had been vacant since the retailer relocated on Sept. 12, 2012, to an upgraded Supercenter on Amargosa Road in Victorville.

Tractor Supply would reverse course on the Victorville site, choosing to break ground in Hesperia in 2015.

Meanwhile, the abandoned Walmart property would later become an Amazon DFX4 warehouse delivery station.

Tractor Supply would open its Barstow store in 2017, followed by a site in Apple Valley in 2019.

Tractor Supply expansion plans

In 2025, Tractor Supply reported record sales for its third quarter, during which it opened 29 stores.

The company also revealed plans to open a total of 100 locations over the next year.

“This increase reflects our continued confidence in the strength of our new store economics and the long-term growth potential of our model,” CFO Kurt Barton said. “We anticipate a consistent pace of openings throughout the year.”

While Tractor Supply sees growth across the entire United States, most of the expansion will continue to be in the West, with the growth supported by a new distribution center in Idaho, chief stores officer John Orduso said during the call.

As of September 2025, Tractor Supply operated 2,364 Tractor Supply stores in 49 states and 206 Petsense by Tractor Supply stores in 23 states.

The Tennessee-based Tractor Supply, considered the nation’s largest rural lifestyle retailer, has been in operation since 1938.
