Police on Monday identified a 25-year-old man who was apparently accidently struck by a police vehicle that was responding to a reported disturbance early Sunday at a south Lubbock business.
The Lubbock Police Department’s Major Crash Unit is investigating the crash involving a patrol vehicle and a pedestrian that occurred about 5 a.m. after officers were dispatched to a business in the 6900 block of Interstate 27 for a report of a man who was possibly intoxicated and causing problems with employees, according to a statement from Lubbock police.
Through the initial course of the investigation, it appears the man officers were called to check on, later identified as 25-year-old Adonis Porter, had left the business and was walking in the traveled portion of the southbound Interstate 27 access road.
An officer responding to the call for service was traveling north of the business when the patrol vehicle collided with Porter.
Officers immediately rendered aid and performed life-saving measures until EMS personnel arrived on scene.
Porter was taken by EMS to University Medical Center, where he remains hospitalized with serious injuries.
The officer suffered minor injuries.
Other information about the circumstances of the disturbance and collision were not immediately clear as the investigation is ongoing.
