A Columbus man accused of stabbing and shooting his estranged wife and her 11-year-old daughter will remain behind bars after he decided not to ask for bond.
Derrick Green, 35, is charged with aggravated murder, tampering with evidence and abuse of a corpse in connection with the May 27 killings of his estranged wife, 33-year-old Shalimar Green, and her 11-year-old daughter Aliv’eyah Chandler. Police say Derrick Green stabbed and shot the victims.
Green appeared on June 8 in Franklin County Common Pleas Court, where an attorney entered a not guilty plea on his behalf. Green declined to request bond, meaning he will be held in the Franklin County Jail pending future hearings.
Green could request that a bond be set at a later date.
According to court records, Green is accused of killing both Shalimar and Chandler at their home on the 2900 block of Chatsworth Way in Columbus’ Southeast Side.
Shalimar was in the process of ending her marriage to Green, court records say, and the night before the killings she had found Green sleeping with a knife on the couch. Court records say she confronted Green about why he had the knife.
According to court records, detectives found bloody clothing, a knife and ballistic evidence inside the home. Green’s car was also parked outside and ammunition that matched evidence from inside the home was on the front passenger seat, court records say.
SWAT officers arrested Green within hours, and according to court records, he admitted to raping Chandler after her death.
If convicted, Green faces a maximum sentence of life in prison with no opportunity for parole.
