Authorities are investigating the discovery of a body found June 7 off Harbor Boulevard just north of Gonzales Road in the Oxnard area.
The California Highway Patrol was called around 5:30 p.m. to the scene after a cyclist riding through the area noticed a strong odor and stopped to find the body of an adult male about 15 feet off the roadway in the brush, said Sgt. David Kelly.
The Ventura County Sheriff’s Office was also called and later the Ventura County Medical Examiner’s Office, Kelly said. Which agency investigates the death will depend on the outcome of the autopsy, the CHP sergeant said.
CHP patrols state roads and would investigate the death if it is the result of a traffic incident, and the sheriff’s office would otherwise lead the case, Kelly said.
No foul play was initially suspected at the time of the discovery, Kelly said. The body did have obvious signs of decomposition.
