Florida football’s 2027 recruiting class has been built on winning head-to-head battles against SEC rivals, especially Georgia.
The Gators currently boast the No. 3 recruiting class in the nation according to the 247Sports composite. Jon Sumrall’s program also leads the country in blue-chip recruits, earning 16 commitments from prospects graded four stars or better.
Of those 16 coveted prospects, four are from the Peach State — Sumrall and his staff have made Georgia a primary recruiting battleground, securing pledges from several players that the Bulldogs pursued heavily. Four-star offensive tackle Kennedee Jackson chose Florida over Georgia and LSU earlier this month, while four-star linebacker Ja’Bois Smith sided with the Gators over the Bulldogs a week ago after his official visit to Gainesville.
Four-star running back Andrew Beard committed to Florida despite having deep family ties to Georgia and living just 12 miles from Athens. Other prospects to choose Florida over UGA include three-star safety Kailib Dillard, three-star defensive lineman Keumajou Yondui — who also shunned Texas and Auburn — and four-star WR Elias Pearl, who also skipped over Ole Miss for the Gators.
The rivalry on the recruiting trail continues to be just as intense as the one on the gridiron, as Florida eyes two more blue-chip Bulldog targets in four-star WR Amare Patterson and five-star WR Eric McFarland III, the latter of whom recently narrowed his recruitment to Florida, Georgia and Texas A&M.
