Metro Detroit is in for a humid, wet week as summer’s start nears, according to the Detroit/Pontiac National Weather Service office.
With the heat index set to approach 100 degrees by later this week, you’ll want to follow key guidelines to stay cool, like avoiding strenuous exercise outdoors, wearing sunscreen and keeping hydrated.
Monday, June 8, is starting out dry and sunny, with temperatures set to reach the 80s, but rain and thunderstorms are on the way starting Monday night, the weather agency advises. Rainfall could reach over 2 inches in some areas and isolated flash flooding is possible.
Highs will climb to the mid-90s on Wednesday, June 10, and Thursday, June 11, and a chance of thunderstorms will continue into Thursday night, the agency said.

Yes, rain showers are expected to begin overnight Monday, June 8, and continue through Tuesday night, June 9, with a chance of thunderstorms, per the NWS outlook. There’s currently an 80% chance of rain Tuesday, June 9, and there’s a 30% chance of showers on Wednesday, June 10.
Expect a chance of thunderstorms Wednesday night, June 10, through Thursday night, June 11, the weather agency said.
