Officials announced a body was found during the search for a missing kayaker on the Ohio River.
New Richmond fire officials announced a body was found around noon June 7 on the river just south of the village, near the 800 block of Washington Street, according to a news release.
Since Thursday, June 4, numerous local agencies have been searching for a person whose kayak capsized in the Ohio River around 4 p.m. that day. Three kayaks had capsized and two people were accounted for, but another remained missing.
The identity of the person was not immediately released by fire officials.
“Incidents like these are never easy for the families and friends involved,” the department said in a news release. “They are also difficult for the first responders who dedicate countless hours to these operations.”
Crews used sonar and other technologies during the search for the kayaker. The Ohio Department of Natural Resources led the recovery efforts.
