Florida mall begins demolition for redevelopment
Demolition of the Indian River Mall began with getting rid of the Macy’s and Sear’s to make space for DTS Properties redevelopment. The redevelopment would usher in a hybrid indoor-outdoor shopping experience with the construction of five outdoor 250,000-square-foot retail stores and a drive-through restaurant.
Heiress purchases $8.5 million of Florida land for conservation
The great-great-granddaughter of Charles Fleischmann, who helped patent Fleischmann’s yeast, is spending $8.5 million to buy nearly 8 acres in Martin County for conservation and recreation.
Florida city is getting a new marina on a historic site near downtown
Capri Harbor Stuart is a new marina coming to Martin County. It will be located where the Lighthouse Restaurant used to be until 1962, when it was torn down to make way for a road and widening project for the Old Roosevelt Bridge.
Florida port could become hub for SpaceX, Blue Origin rocket recovery
St. Lucie County is updating the master plan for the Port of Fort Pierce and sees the commercial space industry as a potential future customer. This could add a “Launch Vehicle Recovery Facility,” a staging ground for the offshore recovery of rocket components following launches from Cape Canaveral Space Force Station and NASA’s Kennedy Space Center.
Judge rules on police whistleblower lawsuit against Florida city
A lawsuit filed by longtime Vero Beach police lieutenant Daniel Cook has been dismissed with prejudice in favor of the city.
The 37-year city police veteran failed to provide evidence showing he was retaliated against after raising concerns about a hostile work environment, wrote Circuit Court Judge Cynthia Cox in the June 3 court order dismissing the lawsuit.
