All registered Democrats in Steuben County will have the opportunity to vote for party candidates for U.S. Congress and New York State comptroller in the June 23 primary elections.
Early voting is just around the corner. It begins June 13 for Steuben County’s approximately 13,500 enrolled Democrats.
There offices, two federal and one statewide, are on Democratic Party primary ballots. They are:
For Steuben County Republicans, only a handful of town races will be decided by primary voters. Here is a breakdown of what’s on the ballot in Steuben County.
New York State Comptroller
Incumbent Democratic Comptroller Thomas P. DiNapoli has served five terms as the state’s chief fiscal watchdog. He was originally appointed to the post in 2007 and subsequently returned to office by voters four times.
Drew Warshaw and Raj Goyle are challenging DiNapoli in the Democratic primary.
23rd Congressional District
Aaron Gies and Kevin T. Stocker are running in the primary for the opportunity to face Republican Rep. Nick Langworthy, the incumbent, in the November General Election.
The Steuben County Democratic Committee endorsed Gies in the primary.
The 23rd Congressional District Democratic primary will be on the ballot in the cities of Corning and Hornell, and in the towns of Addison, Bath, Bradford, Cameron, Campbell, Canisteo, Caton, Corning, Erwin, Fremont, Greenwood, Hartsville, Hornby, Hornellsville, Howard, Jasper, Lindley, Rathbone, Thurston, Troupsburg, Tuscarora, Urbana, Wayne, West Union and Woodhull.
24th Congressional District
Alissa J. Ellman and Diane J. Kastenbaum are facing off in the Democratic primary in the 24th Congressional District.
This primary race will only be on the ballot in the towns of Avoca, Cohocton, Dansville, Prattsburgh, Pulteney, Wayland and Wheeler.
The seat is currently held by Republican Claudia Tenney.
What to know about Republican Party primaries on June 23
There is no countywide Republican primary in Steuben County this year, according to the Board of Elections.
Five towns have local Republican primary races on June 23. They are Campbell, Corning, Erwin, Lindley and Rathbone.
In Corning, there is a primary for town justice between Wendalyn Vanzile and Randy Dye.
In Campbell, there is a primary for town supervisor between Norman Maynard and Jeffrey Horton.
In Erwin, there is a primary for town council between Alisa Troccia and Heather Ford.
In Lindley, there are primaries for town supervisor between Roger Reep and Patrick Clark, and highway superintendent between Carlos Plumley and Dylan Hill.
In Rathbone, there is a primary for town council between Kevin Clark and Mary Catherine Cole.
Details on early voting for June primaries
Early primary voting runs from Saturday, June 13, through Sunday, June 21, at the Steuben County Annex Building, 20 E. Morris St., Bath. No other poll sites in Steuben County will be open for early voting.

How to vote in primaries on June 23
Voters must be a registered Democrat to vote in a Democratic primary and a registered Republican to vote in the GOP primary races.
Primary election polls will be open from 6 a.m. until 9 p.m. on Tuesday, June 23.
On June 23, Democrat voters should visit their usual voting site to cast their ballots.
In the City of Hornell, all voting will take place at the Hornell Community Arts Center, 58 Broadway.
