There are plenty of summer events across the Rockford region with county fairs, cultural festivals, live music and major sporting events filling the calendar through Labor Day weekend.
Rockford Area Pride Parade
Date: June 6
Location: downtown Rockford
About: The third Rockford Area Pride will include floats, community organizations, local businesses and thousands of spectators and participants filling the streets with joy, color and unapologetic pride. All are welcome to celebrate diversity, self and expression. This year’s grand marshals are Shelton Kay, Norm Knott and Lien Vu. The parade kicks off at noon.
South Main Mercado
Date: June 7
Location: South Main & Morgan, Rockford
About: A free, family-friendly outdoor market organized by La Onda and community partners to celebrate Rockford’s Hispanic and Latino heritage. Guests can browse vendors offering jewelry, clothing, art and handmade goods, enjoy food trucks, catch live entertainment and connect with community organizations. The event runs from noon to 7 p.m.
Ironman 70.3 Rockford-Illinois
Date: June 14
Location: Downtown Rockford and surrounding areas
About: Athletes from across the country take on a 70.3-mile triathlon through Rockford’s streets and waterways. One of the area’s premier sporting events, it’s worth attending just to cheer on competitors along the Rock River course.
Old Settlers Days
Date: June 18–21
Location: Settlers Park, 200 Hawick St., Rockton
About: The Rockton Lions Club’s four-day outdoor music festival returns with country headliners Chris Janson, Ashley McBryde, Lauren Alaina and Josh Ross on the main stage, plus a carnival, food vendors and a beer tent. One of the best deals in the region for live country music in a small-town festival setting.
Juneteenth Celebration
Date: June 19
Location: Sinnissippi Park, Rockford
About: The Rockford Park District hosts the 34th annual Juneteenth celebration, the longest-running Juneteenth event in Illinois, featuring live performances, food, awards and community vendors starting at 1 p.m. A meaningful way to honor African American history and Freedom Day right here in Rockford.
Show of Shows
Date: July 3
Location: Swanson Stadium at Guilford High School, 5620 Spring Creek Rd., Rockford
About: Drum Corps International brings some of the country’s top competitive drum and bugle corps to Rockford for one night of high-energy marching music and pageantry. Corps including Phantom Regiment, Madison Scouts and The Cavaliers take the field starting at 6:30 p.m.
Fourth of July Celebrations
Date: July 4
Location: Various locations, downtown Rockford
About: Rockford celebrates Independence Day with a 30-minute fireworks display launched from the Jefferson Street Bridge. Catch the show from Joe Marino Park or along the State Street and Chestnut Street bridges at 9:30 p.m.
Byron Fest
Date: July 10–12
Location: Downtown Byron
About: Byron’s premier summer festival returns for its 39th year with live music on multiple stages, a carnival midway, a parade, a bags tournament, food vendors and family activities spread across three days. One of the best small-town summer festivals in the region, and a great excuse to get out of Rockford for a weekend.
Japanese Summer Festival
Festival Date: July 18–19
Location: Anderson Japanese Gardens, 318 Spring Creek Rd., Rockford
About: Anderson Japanese Gardens hosts its annual two-day celebration of Japanese culture featuring taiko drummers, traditional dance, tea ceremonies, aikido and sword demonstrations, ikebana flower arranging, calligraphy and more. One of the most unique cultural events in the area is set inside one of the highest-rated Japanese gardens in North America.
Stephenson County Fair
Date: July 21–25
Location: Stephenson County Fairgrounds, 2250 S. Walnut Road, Freeport
About: One of the region’s longest-running summer traditions, the fair brings carnival rides, livestock shows and grandstand entertainment to Freeport. A classic county fair experience for all ages.
Women’s Baseball World Cup Group Stage
Date: July 22–26
Location: Rivets Stadium, 4503 Interstate Blvd., Loves Park
About: Six of the world’s top-ranked women’s national baseball teams compete in this rare regional stop on the international stage, a great opportunity to watch elite women’s baseball close to home.
Rhythm of the Heart Music Festival
Date: July 25
Location: Loves Park Festival Grounds, 100 Heart Blvd., Loves Park
About: A free, all-day festival hosted by the City of Loves Park featuring live music from four tribute bands, a classic car show, food trucks, a kids’ activity area and a fireworks finale around 10 p.m.
Festa Italiana
Date: July 31–Aug. 2
Location: Rockford
About: The Greater Rockford Italian American Association hosts its 47th annual festival, featuring authentic Italian food, live entertainment, bocce, a carnival, kids activities and a Sunday Mass. It runs Friday evening through Sunday afternoon.
Boone County Fair
Date: Aug. 11–16
Location: Boone County Fairgrounds, 8847 Route 76, Belvidere
About: One of Boone County’s biggest annual events, the fair features livestock exhibitions, carnival rides, concerts and fair food across six days. A full week of family-friendly fun.
RockYard Music Fest
Date: Aug. 14–15
Location: Davis Park, downtown Rockford
About: This one is a new to the line up this year. GoRockford’s free two-day festival comes to Davis Park along the Rock River, featuring live music, local art, food, drinks, games and family activities as part of Rockford’s America 250 celebration. Friday evening wraps with a fireworks display over the river, while Saturday night closes with a drone show over the downtown skyline.
815 Day
Date: Aug. 15
Location: Various locations, Rockford
About: A citywide celebration of Rockford’s identity, with local businesses and organizations offering specials and events all day. A great excuse to explore the city and support the community you live in.
Polish Fest
Date: Aug 16
Location: Saint Stanislaus Kostka Church, 2013 4th Ave., Rockford
About: Traditional Polish food, live music and dancing fill this cultural festival that’s become a Rockford summer classic.
Winnebago County Fair
Date: Aug. 19–23
Location: Winnebago County Fairgrounds, 500 W. First St., Pecatonica
About: Truck pulls, demolition derbies, carnival rides and agricultural exhibits headline one of the area’s largest summer gatherings. A regional tradition that draws crowds from across Northern Illinois.
