DUPLAIN TWP. — A man who died in a crash near Ovid and Elsie on Monday, June 1 has been identified as Matthew Garza, 34, of Elsie.
The crash involved three vehicles and happened about 8:40 p.m. on North Hollister Road, south of French Road.
Garza was pronounced dead at the scene, and several other people were seriously injured, according to the Clinton County Sheriff’s Office, which released Garza’s name on Wednesday, June 3.
Sheriff’s officials said a man they later identified as Garza was driving south on Hollister when his vehicle crossed the center line and collided with a northbound vehicle driven by a 34-year-old Elsie-area woman. Another northbound vehicle driven by a 41-year-old woman also was struck.

Those two drivers and an undisclosed number of passengers in their vehicles were taken to a hospital with serious injuries. The sheriff’s department said it did not have condition updates on them.
St. Johns police and the Ovid and Elsie fire departments also responded, along with Clinton Area Ambulance Service and Eaton Area EMS.
