Orlando Health unveils details of new hospital plans for Viera

Orlando Health this week released the details of its planned hospital coming to Viera, with the emergency department expected to open as soon as fall of 2027.

Groundbreaking on the project is expected to begin this month. The hospital will serve the central Brevard community that lost Rockledge Regional Medical Center, which closed last year after Orlando Health purchased the distressed asset from Steward Health Care.

Orlando Health officials say the project will include a seven-story hospital structure alongside a three-story, 240-bed 60,000 square-foot medical office building north of Viera Boulevard.

The hospital will be built in stages, with the emergency department expected to be ready first. An estimated date for the final build-out was not provided by Orlando Health.

The project will be built across a 40-acre campus in the Borrows West neighborhood of Viera between Lake Andrew Drive and I-95, just south of Viera Boulevard.

In a provided statement, Ohme Entin, president of Orlando Health East Region, said the hospital announcement was “exciting day for this region.”

“With the addition of this new facility, we will continue to build on the level of healthcare services that the community deserves and has come to expect from Orlando Health,” he said.

“The announcement of Orlando Health’s health and wellness campus coming to the mixed-use commercial hub of Borrows West in Viera is a powerful affirmation of the vision laid out by our community’s founders more than 35 years ago,” said Todd J. Pokrywa, president of The Viera Company, in the same emailed statement.

“This milestone reflects the thoughtful planning that has always placed essential medical services and new major employment centers at the heart of Viera’s master plan. We are honored that Orlando Health has chosen Viera as the home for this transformative investment, which will not only meet vital healthcare needs but also provide new jobs in the community that serve as a catalyst for continued growth across residential, hospitality, office, retail, and dining sectors in Borrows West, Viera, and the broader Central Space Coast region,” Pokrywa said.
