Volusia Sheriff’s deputies have an arrest warrant on a vehicular homicide charge for the woman accused of driving the truck that crashed into a Daytona Beach Shores tollbooth, killing the attendant, according to news reports.
Deputies are searching for Deanna Harrell, 35, of Ormond Beach, after she was released from a Baker Act, according to WESH Channel 2.
She was detained immediately after the crash under Florida’s Baker Act, which allows for the involuntary commitment of someone for evaluation if they are considered a danger to themselves or others.
Harrell was released June 2, but Volusia Sheriff Mike Chitwood told WESH she was not turned over to the sheriff’s office. “Of course,” he told the station. “Would you expect anything less from the system?”
Chitwood said his deputies are looking for her to arrest her on the warrant, according to WESH.
Harrell was driving the truck that slammed into the tollbooth June 1 on the Dunlawton Avenue beach ramp, killing Tammie Jo Baker, 62, according to the sheriff’s office.
