Who will appear on the fall ballot in Wood and Marathon counties?

MARSHFIELD – Voters in Marshfield and Wood and Marathon counties will find a mix of incumbents and new faces on their ballots for the fall election.

Candidates had until 5 p.m. Monday, June 1 to file their nomination papers for Wisconsin state executive offices, U.S. Congress, state Senate, state Assembly and partisan county offices. Nomination papers can be challenged for things like issues with signatures or addresses for three days following the nomination paper filing deadline. Final ballot access determinations will be made by Tuesday, June 9.

A primary will be held Aug. 11 for seats with more than two qualified candidates, and the fall general election between the top two candidates will be held Nov. 3.

Marshfield Area Joint Municipal Court Judge

The Marshfield Municipal Court is a joint court serving the City of Marshfield, Village of Spencer and Village of Stratford, according to the office’s website. A special election will be held in November to fill this nonpartisan office following the death of John A. Kruse, former municipal court judge, in January. Incumbent Judge Krista J. James was appointed to the seat by the Marshfield Common Council in February.

Wood and Marathon County offices

Wood County Sheriff. The Sheriff’s Office works “cooperatively with the community to enforce the law, preserve the peace and provide for a safe environment,” according to the office’s website. The sheriff serves a four-year term.

Marathon County Sheriff. The Sheriff’s Office works to provide a safe, secure and crime-free community, according to the office’s website. The sheriff serves a four-year term.

Wood County Coroner. The Coroner’s Office conducts investigations into fatalities that occur within the county as required by law and serves a role in the line of succession in the event that the county sheriff is unable to perform their duties, according to state statutes. The coroner serves a four-year term.

Wood Clerk of Courts. The Clerk of Courts Office is the official record keeper for matters brought before the Wood County Circuit Court along with other duties such as receiving and disbursing bail, fines, forfeitures, fees and restitution and coordinating services with other government agencies, according to the office’s website. The clerk of courts serves a four-year term.

Marathon Clerk of Courts. The Clerk of Courts Office is responsible for the filing and case management of all Marathon County court cases, according to the office’s website. The clerk of courts serves a four-year term.

Wisconsin Legislature

Wisconsin state senators are elected to four-year terms. Assembly representatives are elected to two-year terms. Senate District 23 incumbent Jesse James (R-Thorp) filed for noncandidacy in this race. Romaine Quinn (R-Birchwood) filed for noncandidacy in the District 25 race as his residence is no longer contained by the district following 2023 redistricting.

U.S. House

U.S. congresspersons are elected to two-year terms. The deadline to submit paperwork for this race was extended to 5 p.m. June 4 as incumbent U.S. Rep. Tom Tiffany did not file a declaration of noncandidacy in this race. Tiffany announced his intention to seek the office of Governor in September and state law does not allow a single individual to appear on ballots for more than one partisan offices in the same election.
