A 68-year-old man who died May 26 after being struck by a Brightline train was identified as Andrew Marc Levin, of Stuart, according to a recently-released Martin County Sheriff’s Office report.

Martin County Sheriff John Budensiek has said the deceased was on a bicycle at the time, heading east on Southeast Monterey Road.

Budensiek said a detective was at the railroad crossing, and saw the crossing arms come down properly.

“He was at the pedestrian crossing and then our detective watched him weed his way through traffic, cross a little cement barrier with some plastic dividers, and then start making his way towards the railroad tracks,” Budensiek has said. “Our detective saw what was unfolding in front of him, started hitting his air horn, tried to get our victim’s attention.”

Levin’s listed address is east of the railroad tracks, not far from the crossing.

Budensiek said the bicycle rider had what appeared to be a bag of food on his handlebars.

He “rode directly into the path of that train and was killed instantly.”

No other information was immediately available.
